About

This site is a social media and news aggregator for the UK's Knowledge Transfer Networks (KTNs) which aggregates their activities into one place for easy viewing. We currently monitor a number of different social media sites for KTN activity, which we then process, and display on the site to enable KTN members and other interested visitors to view.

Originally created in early 2010 as a simple site which published tweets and blog posts from KTNs in a live stream, the site has since evolved into a larger news and media resource; publishing stories, tweets, media such as video and photos, as well as collating stats and posting career opportunities and events for each KTN.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a KTN?

There are approximately 20 Knowledge Transfer Networks (KTNs) around the UK, which are government funded groups for different industry sectors. They aim to bring together industry and academic proffesionals so they can meet and share knowledge with each other and help sustain and develop the UK economy.

Is this site run or managed by the KTNs?

No, this site has been independently setup with absolutely no involvement from any KTN nor any companies or organisations affiliated or associated with them.

If you wish to find out further information on this, please contact us.

Who decides the Featured news item?

The top KTN of the past seven days has it's most recent blog post featured on the homepage

What makes a 'top' KTN?

The top KTNs are calculated by the amount of activity each KTN has made within the past seven days across all of the social media sites we monitor. So, the more tweets and images uploaded to Flickr for example, will increase a KTN's position.

I work for a KTN - can I promote my event on the site?

We are happy to help promote events held by KTNs. Please contact us for details

What types of social media does the site use?

Currently the site aggregates information from Twitter, Flickr, Vimeo and each of the KTN's blogs on their new web platform. We also provide links to each KTN's Facebook page and Linked In profile where avaliable. We are always on the lookout for new services to add, if you have any suggestions please contact us.

Why aren't all the KTNs listed?

Oops! This is probably due to legacy reasons, if you notice a KTN which isn't listed please contact us and we will rectify the issue ASAP.

Stats Information

How are your stats collated?

Stats are calculating how many interactions a KTN makes using social media within the past seven days. Each individual activity (ie. a tweet, a blog post, a Flickr photo album) counts as one interactio, which are calculated together to produce a live total.

How are your stats displayed?

The stats displayed on our stats page are live and show the last weeks worth of activities. That means, if you view the page at 10:03am on a Friday; the stats being displayed are from 10:04am Friday the previous week, to 10:03am now.

What about groups?

Currently, groups are calculated indepentantly from their KTN. They are scored using the exact same system, and have an equal chance of becoming the Top KTN.

It is hoped in the future (manpower and resources permitting) for group statistics to be incorporated into their respective KTN.
